BRUERN, an extra-parochial liberty, in the hundred of CHADLINGTON, county of OXFORD, 3¾ miles (N. by E.) from Burford, containing 64 inhabitants. An abbey for Cistercian monks, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, was founded by Nicholas Basset, in 1147, the revenue of which, at the dissolution, amounted to £124. 10. 10.
