Adwell, Oxfordshire


ADWELL, a parish in the hundred of LEWKNOR; county of OXFORD, 1¾ mile (S. by E.) from Tetsworth, containing 44 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £4. 13. 9., and in the patronage of Mrs. F. Webb. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Here is an ancient intrenchment, called Adwell Cop, supposed by Dr. Plot to have been constructed by the Danes, about the year 1010.
